Job Description

The Clerk provides:

  • Comprehensive advice on governance and education legislation
  • Coordination and organization of meetings and workload
  • Administrative support for governors, especially the Chair and Head teacher

The key role to play in making sure all pupils at a school receive the highest standard of education possible and are able to achieve their full potential. They are essential to education.

An effective clerk provides professional, accurate minutes; business continuity for governing boards and reflects, to the outside world, the effective working of the governing board. All new clerks are supported through a development plan and we organize regular support meetings to exchange information and keep clerks updated.

Working with school governors can be an extremely rewarding activity as they actively help to shape the workforce of the future. The quality of education we provide for today’s children will affect the quality of our society in the future. An effective governing board is a source of enormous strength to a school and the advice and support that a good clerk can bring will add additional value. They encourage and enable governors to ask searching questions and share in formulating the school’s aims and vision.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You will need strong organizational skills, the ability to priorities your workload and good customer service skills. The ability to work on your own initiative as well as a mature and committed approach is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Previous experience and knowledge of the workings of governing boards is desirable but not essential. Access to a car to travel to the schools is essential.
