Job Description

You will provide senior support within the small Finance department and will also act as a key liaison with head office Finance and other departments. The position would suit an ambitious and post-qualification-experienced finance professional who would relish the challenge of operating within a broad financial control remit. The role covers all aspects of revenue and risk reporting, balance sheet and valuation control, cost control, position management, month-end accounting, payments processing and tax / VAT matters.

The company is also in the middle of a multi-phase IT and workflow re-engineering project and the Financial Controller will play a key role in shaping this project and the ongoing integration of the financial and trading systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Key stakeholder of the company's financial control framework and associated reporting covering profit-and-loss and balance sheet production, foreign exchange, credit control and metals position risk management.
  • Responsible for much of the month-end financial close processing and reporting including general ledger administration, P&L and balance sheet close, journal entry and review, balance sheet substantiation and management reporting / KPIs production.
  • Extensive liaison with the trading desk heads and internal head office departments including finance and risk management plus external trading counterparties and other stakeholders e.g. auditors, the company's banks.
  • Verifying and processing daily payments to suppliers and other counterparties.
  • Involvement in the company's tax matters including processing monthly VAT returns and corporation tax returns and payments.
  • Playing a key role in the ongoing financial systems build-out and their integration with head office.
  • Line management responsibilities for one member of the Finance team.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualified accountant with post-qualification experience gained within a busy trading or financial services organization.
  • Experience gained within a metals or commodities business is preferred.
  • Proven track record of career progression and accomplishments and in driving forward organizational change.
  • Through their achievements demonstrates a solid understanding of the broader concepts of financial control and/or product control.
  • Highly proficient analytical skills through financial data analysis and problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Able to deal autonomously and confidently with colleagues at all levels and with numerous external counterparties.
  • An understanding of IFRS and UK GAAP accounting standards.
