Job Description

You will undertake a key financial role in a fast-paced environment, providing day to day financial advice to our commercial teams that plan, specify, procure and manage rail contracts. You will work across one or more of the Train Operating Companies (TOC) and lead on the financial aspects of the commercial management of current contracts, including analysis, assessment and forecasting.

These roles provide the opportunity for exposure and to develop working relationships with a wide-ranging community within and outside of the Department, including Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and legal, technical, and financial specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Providing reports and analysis to the Finance Lead to enable review and challenge of the annual business plans, quarterly forecasts and periodic management accounts
  • Assessing and analyzing the financial position of incumbent operators
  • Leading on budgeting and forecasting for the team internal budget
  • Gaining an understanding of the financial aspects of the contract that underpins the relationship between the train operator and the Department
  • Providing ad-hoc advice and guidance to our Market Lead, Rail Finance Lead and the Commercial Team

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • You will either be fully qualified, or part qualified with CCAB, CIMA or IFAC equivalent, with core finance and accounting skills.
  • Part qualified candidates will be supported by the Department to complete their qualification when in role.
  • You will have a high attention to detail and experience of collating, analyzing and interpreting commercial and technical information to produce succinct financial reports.
  • You will have excellent stakeholder management skills to build trusted relationships at all levels within and outside of the Department.
  • You will display confidence and the credibility to support, listen and challenge and present complex financial information to a wide audience.
  • You will be well organized and take a proactive approach to problem solving and delivering results in a high-profile environment.
  • You will either be fully qualified, or part qualified with CCAB, CIMA or IFAC equivalent.
