Job Description

The team provides specialist accounting and financial reporting advice to clients across a range of complex accounting issues. You will have a client facing role and lead a diverse range of projects, varying in magnitude and complexity, focusing on the application of technical accounting, in particular: accounting policy conversions and GAAP analysis, preparation of financial statements or carve out accounts, merger and acquisition activity, implementation support for new standards, group restructurings, and training. You will often work as part of cross-functional teams including Transaction Services, Corporate Finance, Audit and Tax. You will also lead business development activities with clients and contribute to the team’s growth and success.

You will liaise directly with your clients responding to a range of technical queries, drawing on your own expertise and identifying when additional input is required from other colleagues and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the business. A member of the leadership team, you will be expected to promote and role model the departments cultural values to your staff. You will lead teams and supervise the work of employees based in the UK and offshore locations. You will also have performance management responsibilities for a small number of staff.

  • Managing client accounting related engagements. This will include leading teams and, in some instances, leading input into larger, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Assessing the impact of new and existing accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, UKGAAP, Companies Act), advising clients on their application and the impact on the operation of an organization.
  • Taking ownership for the delivery of quality, efficient and profitable engagements.
  • Acting as an SME on technical accounting specific topics.
  • Leading business development effort in a sector/AAS service line.
  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with senior client staff and colleagues across various departments.
  • Developing and delivering accounting training to clients and internal= teams.
  • Contributing to practice and risk management, including thought leadership.
  • Performance managing junior team members, ensuring that you are having rich development conversations that supports their growth and career progression.
  • Actively contributing to the AAS strategy, team management and other non-delivery aspects of the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience of working within an accounting advisory function of a professional services firm / corporate business sector at Senior Manager Level.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of IFRS 9, 15 and 16, UK GAAP (FRS 101/102), and Companies Act. 
  • Knowledge and experience of US GAAP.
  • Experience of developing and presenting accounting training courses.
  • Experience of managing teams, coaching and mentoring junior staff. 
  • Proven track record of managing and delivering high quality, complex projects with stakeholder deliverables.
  • Business development experience with new and existing clients within the corporate sector. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and presentation skills; able to communicate complex matters in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Highly effective stakeholder management and relationship building skills; credible and confident with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; able to analyse and interpret complex technical information.
  • Effective problem solver; makes pragmatic and logical decisions, drawing on own and others’ technical accounting expertise to provide high quality solutions.
  • Self-driven and resilient; able to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Professional qualification from a recognized accountancy body.
