Job Description

Whilst not managing staff you will have many responsibility and the post-holder will be working closely with senior leaders of the organisation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Initiate and drive continuous improvement in existing financial systems and processes including improvements in our monthly financial management reporting to all budget holders to increase accountability (either through report distribution or self-service);
  • Lead on developing and maintaining the chart of accounts structure in accordance with financial accounting standards and best practice guidance to aid the continued improvements in financial management across the organisation and accurate internal and external reporting;
  • Design, write and deliver financial training to budget holders including senior leaders which will in turn provide for more effective and informed financial decisions.
  • Support projects relating to financial systems, working with our IT Systems Team ensuring the integrity of the general ledger and interfaces with financial systems;
  • Develop and maintain the force's financial planning and budgeting solution.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You should be a qualified or qualified by experience accountant, with experience of working in a large and complex organisation, ideally Public Sector and Local Government as a preference.

Although the role does not manage a team, you will need great communication skills to influence senior leaders and budget holders and to improve processes with the wide finance team.
