Job Description

This position would suit someone who is looking to take the next step in their career and join an exciting, growing and forward-looking company. You will need to be proactive and have the ability to see the big picture while undertaking day to day financial tasks. Some experience in the construction industry is desirable but not essential.

Duties:

  • Carry out the bookkeeping duties, create monthly management accounts and annual reports to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts
  • Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
  • Examine all financial reports and data closely to check for discrepancies
  • Monitor systems to prevent errors in data collection and calculations
  • Manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports, producing cash flow forecasts and budgets and reports to the Directors.
  • Ensure VAT returns are accurate, filed and monies paid on time.
  • Maintain project work in progress records, recording interim applications to main contractors and chasing payments
  • Maintain subcontractor records and payments and file CIS returns
  • Ensure supplier payments are accurate and paid on time
  • Be responsible for all bank payments, monitor the bank accounts and bank reconciliations
  • Be responsible for all statutory returns being filed on time, be they accounting or payroll
  • Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for opportunities to increase profitability
  • Develop budgets and financial plans for the company based on research and data reports
  • Suggest updates and improvements for accounting systems and invoicing where appropriate
  • Ensure financial reporting systems comply with government regulations and legislation and
  • Collaborate with the company’s accountants and provide financial information for the preparation of the Annual Accounts
  • Report to the Directors with timely and accurate financial information
  • Supervise and manage financial department staff
  • Motivate and lead finance team members by clarifying roles and providing helpful feedback
  • Contribute to the training of our finance apprentices

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • It is essential that the candidate has comprehensive experience of Sage 50 Accounting software;
  • Several years’ experience in a finance environment;
  • Management experience and proven leadership skills;
  • Have outstanding mathematical skills;
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrate a high attention to detail;
  • Have excellent organizational skills;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Comprehensive understanding of data privacy standards;
  • Be accountable for own words and actions
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow
