You will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the Deputy Director of the Security and Estates Team in ensuring compliance with Managing Public Money (MPM) relating to all financial transactions, forecasts and issues arising relating to estates budgets.
  • Provide financial oversight of work programmes and projects ensuring affordability and compliance, reporting concerns, risks and issues in a timely manner to appropriate staff.
  • Monitor spend against budget and provide robust monthly forecasts and spending reports to timelines agreed with the Team.
  • Set up purchase orders on SAP system and process invoices.
  • Oversee SAP transactions as directed, including quality assurance, problem-fixing, review and other related work as directed.
  • Carry out quality assurance and financial oversight of Government Property Agency costing and invoices where appropriate. Take the lead for company in resolving any issues arising.
  • Undertake financial analysis and present findings as directed.
  • Support in the delivery of monthly financial forecasts, management information and accounting.
  • Work collaboratively by sharing information appropriately and building supportive, trusting and professional relationships with stakeholders, in particular with the Government Property Agency
  • Use sound judgment, evidence and knowledge to arrive at accurate, expert and professional decisions and advice.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The ability to build strong relationships at a senior level, collaborating with and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving skills to address financial and operational risk
  • A strong interest in commercial finance, policy development and project management and the ability to work under pressure
  • Identify and monitor budgetary risks, implementing responses to these and other issues
  • A full professional accountancy qualification, or exceptionally qualified by significant experience of working.
  • The ability to interact confidently and effectively with senior level counterparts within the Department, financial advisors and our government partners (most notably the Government Property Agency).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others are required, as are strong team-working and leadership skills. The ability to manage complex and competing priorities within agreed timescale and quality parameters.
  • Ability to work in multi-functional teams in a matrix environment and across team boundaries, taking responsibility and ownership for areas in the portfolio
  • Ability to use and interpret complex numerical and financial data and report on findings at a senior level
  • Experience in process improvement and developing solutions to support process improvement which may have been developed in a public or private sector organization
