Job Description

You will be responsible for efficient policies, procedures, systems, and practices to support the smooth running of the organization and will be pro-active in developing new systems/processes and services to meet the needs of the organization as it grows. You will assist the Director of Finance and Business Services to manage external advisors and relationships with banks, auditors, legal, tax and other business services providers, ensuring value for money, contractual compliance, evaluation, and quality assurance processes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be successful as the Head of Finance you will have experience of financial management, efficient administrative systems, and a proven ability to both motivate and be a part of effective teams. You will have excellent communication and organizational skills, be proactive and solution-focused, and knowledgeable about, or be able to access information about, HR, IT and other business services matters.

  • A university degree or equivalent
  • A relevant UK professional finance qualification (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • A good understanding of the environment in which charities operate
  • Good understanding of the principles underpinning financial planning and of demonstrating impact and value for money
  • Significant experience of preparation of management and annual accounts, budgets, business analysis and management information
  • Successful track record of building and maintaining business networks and partnerships, internal and external, at senior level
  • Proven track record of effective leadership and management, of maintaining a strong and motivated team and contributing to strategic planning processes
  • Knowledge of aspects of taxation including VAT and payroll
  • A good understanding of domestic abuse and the need for specialist services or experience in a similar area of work
