Job Description

You will provide leadership, management, and expert insight to the financial accounting functions to enable the delivery of ‘best in class' statutory reporting, maximizing cash flow and return on investments. You will also utilize your expertise to provide trusted advice and counsel to the Chief Finance Officer.

How you'll help to create brighter futures

  • Provide line management and lead by example to a professional and technical group of staff.
  • Responsible for accurate recording, updating, and reporting of all the financial information using the core accounting system.
  • Work with the Chief Finance Officer and Director of Accounting & Finance to develop the long-term investment and financing strategy and be responsible for their implementation.
  • Ensure the provision of expert advice on matters of tax, treasury, statutory reporting compliance requisitions and pensions to management.
  • Work with the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and Director of Accounting & Finance to obtain the best return for cash reserves, investment portfolio and to strategically manage both short term and long term cash flow.
  • Lead the development, implementation and improvement of corporate Finance policies and procedures and controls to safeguard Action for Children's assets and reputation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • CCAB qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant environment whilst demonstrating high-level financial stewardship.
  • Proven experience of presenting financial accounts, year-end closures, and statutory reporting, liaising with external auditors.
  • A good knowledge of the reporting, legal and tax frameworks within which we operate and how we can deliver that, with sufficient understanding of detail points to know when specific expert advice is required.
  • An understanding of FRS17, the different actuarial assumptions and calculations used in assessing pension liability and the impact of different investment strategies and covenants with trustees.
  • Experience of motivating, managing, and developing staff.
