Job Description

This role leads UK and Ireland tax team to optimize tax compliance, reduce reliance on external tax advisors and to provide appropriate business support. The role holder will be a UK tax expert who manages the UK and Ireland Tax team and partners with Global Tax and Business Units on all corporate income tax matters. The role holder is responsible for Tax advice, compliance and reporting for our businesses and for identifying, evaluating and implementing UK tax planning opportunities (while maintaining consistency with Mars global tax principles, policies and strategies) and for optimizing the tax reporting processes.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Leads the UK and Ireland Tax Team. This team is responsible for:
    • Internal and external Corporation Tax returns and reporting.
    • Related income tax compliance and reporting, e.g. Diverted Profit Tax, Transfer Pricing, International Movement of Capital, Controlled Foreign Corporation, etc.
    • Integrating new business acquisitions into the UK tax Centre.
    • Audited UK Financial Statements.
    • Plastic Packaging Tax
  • Monitor impacts and opportunities of tax legislation changes upon operations in the UK. Identify business and tax risks to ensure tax compliance. Identify and implement local tax planning opportunities ensuring that appropriate tax reliefs are obtained to reduce taxes paid (with alignment and approval from Global Tax) while maintaining consistency with global tax principles, policies and strategies and published UK Tax Strategy.
  • Executes UK aspects of group tax planning projects and initiatives.
  • Funding/repatriation – collaborates effectively with local and Global treasury to provide tax advice of proposed funding and repatriation of funds from legal entities.
  • Support Head in managing company relationship to maintain Low Risk rating, in maintaining high quality Senior Accounting Officer compliance through appropriate knowledge management, documentation, controls and systems, in supporting tax audits and in the integration of acquisitions.
  • Develop/Maintains relationship with external tax advisors and business units optimizing the efficiency of income tax compliance
  • Manage, motivate and coach UK Tax team.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professional degree, Chartered Accountant certification and/or Chartered Tax certification with greater than 7 years’ work experience with UK corporate tax issues and concepts.
  • The job holder will need to be able to learn and understand complex technical issues quickly and have strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships and communicate with associates at all levels across the business.
  • Able to combine UK tax functional knowledge and business acumen to give practical UK tax advice and navigate complex challenges.
  • Experience of Financial Control and Accounting will be helpful.
