Job Description

The role is being created following a period of dynamism and change in the Finance Team, to enable it to further improve its service to the department. This role is perfect for an entry-level apprentice who is looking to start their career in finance. It will provide you with the opportunity to get involved with a variety of finance duties that will help develop your finance knowledge, including processing of transactions (accounts payable and receivable), assisting with month end tasks (running reports and processing journals), and general finance administration. You will join and assist our busy and supportive Finance team, which comprises the Finance Manager, three Finance Officers, a Deputy Finance Officer and two Finance Assistants.

You will also get involved in other finance-related duties working with other teams within the department, enabling you to further develop your experience and build relationships.

In total, it will take two years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the department, University, and College throughout, and you will gain an Association of Accounting Technicians Level 2 Certificate and a Level 3 Diploma accounting qualification. There could be an opportunity for the right candidate to complete a Level 4 AAT qualification after the Apprenticeship.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You will be passionate about starting your career in finance and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career, or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the level 2 and 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. These qualifications are completed over 7 days. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon and Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process.
