Job Description

We're looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to help support Thriva through our next stage of growth. You will work closely with the CEO, CCO, COO and rest of the Senior Leadership team. Your mission will be to lead and grow our Finance function and lead Corporate Development and Strategic Projects. As the leader of the finance function you'll shape the team and how Finance collaborates with other departments and continue to inject commercial awareness.
You will be working with people from a variety of backgrounds, who truly care about what we're building.
This role will be 3 days per week.
Your role will split across four key areas:

  • Core accounting: Responsible for all accounting activities including the appropriate use of financial systems. Maintain internal controls and ensure Thriva meets tax and audit obligations, is compliant, and appropriately manages risk. Ensure timely, accurate, and useful reporting to ensure the Board has accurate information to enable decision making.
  • Cash and working capital management: maintain a tight focus on cash management and liquidity. Ensure that the business appropriately manages risk and meets credit insurance obligations. Create strategies to generate working capital to support growth initiatives.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports, P&L analysis, and cash flow forecasts. Lead analysis of financial results and develop strategic and tactical recommendations for the business. Develop and execute analysis of business initiatives using forward-looking predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into Thriva's operations and business plans.
  • Management Information Systems: design and implement MIS that have the capacity to scale with the business, and ensure company makes the right decisions at the right time.
  • Collaborate with the Executive team by bringing deep financial expertise to support company-wide decisions
  • Participate in Board meetings, to present and lead major financial projects
  • Hire, manage, and motivate team members to deliver on finance and company goals
  • Develop, implement, and continually asses all processes and technology requirements within the finance team
  • Implement effective reporting systems and data presentation to ensure a good level of automation and a data strategy that serves the business at an optimum level
  • Encourage and inspire a proactive approach to the finance department's role in the business
  • Serve as the champion for good corporate governance
  • Input into early stage strategy discussions, understanding market context and competitors and conducting all ROI & Business plans to assess such opportunities.
  • Constantly seek margin improvements and cost efficiency through ongoing analysis and continuous improvement of all aspects of company's financial performance
  • Develop financial business plans and forecasts, develop and monitor budgets, and lead financial and tax strategies
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and ensure costs are managed to remain in alignment with the strategic plan
  • Contribute to the commercial analysis and strategy through considering M&A opportunities, international expansion and pricing initiatives
  • Build a system for evaluating ROI of all aspects of the company's operations to guide decision-making on projects and investments, and to enable the continuous focus on activities that yield the highest return
  • Develop investment materials such as financial forecasts, information memorandum, and management presentations
  • Evaluate and support company's fundraising activities and capital structure
  • Build and maintain relationships with the community with the view to securing further rounds of funding
  • Engage the Board around issues, trends, and changes in the operating model and operational delivery
  • Support with investor relations, focusing on securing further funding from existing investors in the business
  • Develop and explore other forms of financing to diversify choices and add competition

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You are a Qualified Accountant - ACA, ICAS or ACCA with experience scaling high-growth, successful start-ups with international operations and you enjoy being in a collaborative environment working with others to achieve our mission:

  • You have built an agile finance function, supporting the development of your team and creating an inclusive environment where people are enabled and motivated to do their best work.
  • You have demonstrable financial management experience; technical with attention to detail.
  • You can demonstrate strategic vision and judgment and have the integrity and conviction to challenge on key strategic and financial decisions
  • You have strong financial modelling experience
  • You've lead and implemented budget and forecasting cycles and can anticipate potential pitfalls and adapt.
  • You understand and have experience of Venture Debt and M&A
  • You have experience of tax structuring and VAT
  • You have experience with FP&A, MI, financial systems, cash management, financial reporting and compliance reporting.
  • Your have great risk assessment and mitigation skills
  • You have fundraising experience
  • You continuously look for what needs to be done and even if you don't have the answer, you can figure out how and who can help you to get there. This ranges from day to day processes right up to large strategic initiatives.
  • You work effectively under pressure and have an agile approach to requirements from a fast moving and growing business and you manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
  • You communicate effectively at all levels within the business from junior team member’s right up to Board level.
  • You're willing to roll up your sleeves up!
