Job Description

Provide a first-class accounting support service to prepare timely and accurate monthly accounts to enable efficient and effective year end and monthly reporting. This will include driving entity by entity reporting monthly working with the Senior Finance Manager. The role will report to the Senior Finance Manager as part of a wider central finance team that is vibrant and keen to move forward with improvements to processes and controls.
You will make a difference by:

  • Support the provision of ‘entity by entity' financial reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure the provision of day-to-day financial accounting of transactions are carried out with a high level of accuracy, applying right first-time principles.
  • Drive the implementation of financial control improvements applying recommendations from internal auditors.
  • Build and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including providing appropriate support and solutions where required, in so doing to instill trust in the Financial Accounting team.
  • Support the development of other members of the Finance team using technical skills and accounting knowledge gained through progression through a recognized accounting qualification.
  • Work with the Senior Finance Manager to generate accurate and timely Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and Working Capital reports for the Month End Management Information Report, updating schedules and providing commentaries.
  • As directed, to embed new workload and process/system improvements into the Financial Accounts Department and continue to drive improvements to ensure the delivery of financial best practice across the charity.
  • Adhere to and assist with the financial timetable for monthly, quarterly and annual routines surrounding month end close, Balance Sheet reconciliations, period end and year end, utilizing related reports.
  • To assist with the year-end process and audit, preparing the SORP year-end financial statements, ensuring effective relationships with external auditors and all transactions reflect accounting standards.
  • Assume full responsibility for Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring that all Balance Sheet accounts including bank reconciliations, are accurately reconciled monthly, ensuring the GL ledger is kept in order and up to date, removing obsolete entries.
  • Ensure all queries received from operational teams, external and internal auditors, are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provide Financial Accounting support to the Voluntary Income Officer to assist in the reconciliation of the Voluntary Income control account on a monthly basis.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Part qualified with a recognized CCAB qualification (ACCA, CIMA).
  • Must be willing to study for full qualification if part qualified within an agreed timeline.
  • Previous experience of delivering the same or similar duties, including production of month end reporting.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills, and to use this data to influence and change behavior and actions.
  • Ability to use an integrated accounts package.
  • Computer literate, with advanced excel skill (including v-lookups, pivots etc.)
  • Ability to apply quality and professional accounting standards, in a methodical way, as well as multi- tasking, responding to changing priorities and meeting deadlines.
