Job Description

This role will be accountable for providing financial support and strategic direction to the Chief Engineer team, focused on Opex and ensuring tight financial control over all aspects of activity undertaken by the Chief Engineer team.

Responsibilities:

• Show financial accountability, control and stewardship over a team of more than 7000 FTE and associated P&L
• Support the implementation of the strategy for the programme by working with the team to provide insights and key reports
• Drive great decisions that optimize financial insights and business outcomes. Lead on ad hoc business cases to set direction for new approaches to resourcing
• Create a robust and insightful control environment for accurate and predictable measurement of capex and KPIs
• Improve understanding and impact of financial reporting on performance of the business unit
• Present findings to FD and MD for Chief Engineer and CFO for Openreach as required
• Control risks and opportunities across regional P&L, actively mitigating risks, driving opportunities and driving profit protection initiatives
• Drive creation of monthly outlook and annual budget

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
• Experience of positively influencing business performance by using data, commentary and analysis to inform decision making
• Proven experience driving daily concepts to deliver longer term vision with the ability to cut through barriers to bring real clarity
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
• Adept at holding others to account through a challenging and supportive leadership style
