Job Description

This role is crucial in providing commercial support in all projects and ongoing reviews with detailed analysis, appraising the financial and commercial suitability of projects primarily in company and involves:

  • Gaining a full understanding of the commercial aspects of projects and translating and developing models to calculate relevant key performance criteria as well as a capital contribution and customer pricing options;
  • Maximizing the impact of each pound spent to achieve our planned social outcomes– Developing financial/commercial models and analysis, to influence key decision-makers.
  • This means understanding project requirements and formulating a response that adds value to the business;
  • Providing sound financial input and robust challenge to a variety of stakeholders e.g. Legal Partners, Development, Finance, and Operations
  • Supporting bid and negotiation cycle by taking ownership of the commercial aspects of formal RFP responses Challenge the commercial assumptions and highlight areas that would improve risk and return profile;
  • Performing risk analysis, scenario planning using the financial model to assess the risks;
  • Presenting results to stakeholders that are understandable, succinct, and structured to facilitate decision making;
  • Creating new financial models to evaluate new product opportunities e.g., heat pumps, waste heat, energy from waste, and electric boilers that follow financial modelling best practice principles.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • A thorough understanding of the energy industry.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (or otherwise suitably experienced) in a finance/business/mathematical/engineering subject.
  • A good understanding of capital/construction projects.
  • Ability to extract risks and financial consequences from reading a contract document.
  • Able to demonstrate financial and commercial acumen in project management, including associated risk management skills.
  • Experience in developing cost and pricing models within district heating and low-carbon energy solutions is essential
