Job Description

This position is responsible for the supervision and workload of employees in the areas of general ledger maintenance/training, system balancing, period-end closings, financial reporting analysis, budgeting, foreign office accounting and financial statement preparation, property, plant & equipment accounting, account reconciliations and disbursement entry.

Key responsibilities

  • Manages the financial and management accountants, including managing workload, conducting performance reviews, and all other people management responsibilities as necessary.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the general ledger and all associated cost/ledger code mapping/masking, as well as the Chart of Accounts
  • Review and approval of journal entries, system balancing, period end closings, reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, generation of global and local financial statements
  • Oversees foreign office accounting and financial reporting
  • Oversees the various year-end statutory audits and liaises with the external auditors as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned and assists in special projects as needed

This role is a key part of the wider Finance management team, working with other Managers and leaders across the function. Regular contact with other teams across the department should be expected. The role is also business facing and should expect to build relationships across the Firm, with a variety of stakeholders.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • University degree
  • Relevant professional qualification
  • Supervisory experience is essential, and management experience is preferred
  • Law Firm accounting/general ledger experience is preferred
  • Proven thorough knowledge of general ledger procedures and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Law Firm Accounting software preferred
  • Significant experience and knowledge surrounding foreign currency measurement, translation, and cumulative translation adjustments
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word and mastery of Excel
  • Must be responsible, self-motivated, accurate and detailed oriented
  • Proven people, project and management skills
  • This position is in a critical needs area and may need to work extra hours and/or weekends
  • Requires the ability to regularly report to work on the days and times scheduled
  • Accurate, and detail and deadline Oriented
  • Effective communicator, including the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders of different seniority
  • Robust knowledge of US and UK GAAP requirements
  • Highly motivated
  • Flexible and able to work to tight deadlines
  • Able to effectively manage a team
