Job Description
  • Through direct reports manage the transactional finance work of the legal team, including processing for payment all invoices received by the Legal team
  • Working with the Legal Operations Team Manager to track legal spend against the budget and the development of summary notes of the budget position for the Head of Legal Operations
  • Supporting the Legal Operations Team Manager by working with the Solicitor to the Inquiry and module solicitors to develop forecasts for future spend
  • Line management of two Legal Finance Officers; conduct regular performance reviews and discussions to encourage professional development and promote a supportive working environment
  • Work flexibly across the Legal Operations team to assist and support those working on the hearings
  • Building up strong working relationships with Fees Clerks from various Chambers, Cabinet Office Finance Team and the Inquiry’s internal finance team to ensure smooth running of all financial processes relating to the legal team

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The successful candidate will be flexible and adaptable, with the ability and willingness to work at pace.
  • They will be comfortable working with staff at senior levels and from a range of different professional backgrounds
  • You will have an excellent eye for detail and a high rate of accuracy whilst also being able to see the big picture
  • You will have excellent prioritization skills, with the ability to balance immediate day-to-day challenges alongside ongoing deadlines
  • You will be highly organized and have a can-do attitude
  • You’ll be a natural problem solver who enjoys developing solutions to unique problems that may arise, as well as identifying new opportunities
  • You will be a self-starter and once up and running, can deliver without significant oversight
  • You will have experience working with accounts payable, managing budgets and forecasting spend
  • Experience of using a Google platform would be advantageous, particularly Google sheets
  • Knowledge of Civil Service Finance would be an advantage but not essential
  • Experience managing a team would be an advantage but is not essential
