Job Description

The finance department has recently gone through a restructure to help develop and improve an already effective and passionate finance team. The restructure is built around development, growth and career progression to ensure we create a high performing finance team that can provide even more support to the council and benefit our residents. The next step of the restructure is to really embed the model that we’ve implemented, ensuring we are challenging the organization to maximize the delivery of services and have an even bigger impact for our residents.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for Corporate Reporting, involving the coordination of consolidated financial reports to Senior Leadership, Members and Committees, ensuring they are of a high quality and tell a story.
  • Promoting a culture which puts Finance at the forefront and supports the delivery of value for money services by being actively involved in the Financial Planning process.
  • Supporting year-end activities where required, and to lead on completion of statutory returns such as the RO and RA forms and implementing the recharge model.
  • Supporting data analytics across Finance, involving data storage, modelling, identifying key cost drivers by driving forward the use of systems such as Power BI
  • Act as a key financial advisor providing strategic support and constructive challenge through negotiation and influencing skills
  • Supporting the Deputy of Director Finance in driving forward ‘a one team’ approach and ethos

You will report directly to the Deputy Director of Finance of Business Partnering and will be a vital and valued member across Finance, as this role will play a key liaison between Corporate Finance and Business Partnering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be suitable for the role you need to be a fully qualified accountant with proven experience and understanding of local government finance. Experience of providing financial support and advice to senior management and being well versed in financial modelling and analysis is essential.
