Job Description

We are responsible for ensuring those targets are met as efficiently as possible by negotiating contracts and agreements with external companies and other business units across British Gas to deliver carbon savings in homes across the UK. The cost of delivering ECO and the carbon savings delivered are reported externally and so attract considerable regulatory, political and media interest You will be explaining unit rates and highlighting variances to forecasts to the business and senior management, working closely together with the business to identify, investigate and explain any inconsistencies.
The role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop their influencing and stakeholder management skills as it requires managing relationships across multiple British Gas business units and analyzing and articulating complex issues clearly and concisely.
Key Accountabilities

  • The role works closely with the business finance and central Financial Reporting teams and is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of month end reported numbers, ensuring the control environment is robust and costs correctly accounted for, working closely with the business finance teams to ensure costs and variances are clearly presented and understood.
  • A significant part of the role involves quarterly regulatory submissions to company.
  • Continues process improvements, embedding automation into activities.
  • Support delivery of processes and improvements within the wider Financial Control team.
  • Advocate for change and finance transformation, helping implement initiatives across Finance.
  • Working closely with numerous finance teams across the month-end to ensure reported costs are accurate and completed on time.
  • Manage the SAP cost structure to ensure costs can be reported by obligation and schemes/channels.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed/reviewed accurately and thoroughly.
  • Prepare the quarterly obligation cost reports, as well as ad-hoc reporting as and when required by company in the prescribed format.
  • Discuss and agree audit approach with external auditors.
  • Prepare audit materials in advance of the audit.
  • Lead auditors through the audit and be key point of contact for the auditors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • You will be educated to degree level, with a recognized accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), have financial experience operating within a large corporate matrix organization and a track record of continuous improvement in accuracy, quality of business insight and delivery of monthly deadlines.
  • Excellent IT skills and high proficiency with Excel and other data applications, with the ability to model, analyze and interpret large amounts of data quickly and efficiently is key as is strong knowledge of financial systems (SAP) to ensure results are accurate and efficiently produced.
  • To have a strong attention to detail and able to prove the integrity of a set of financial results with a questioning’ mentality to all reporting produced, while also applying the necessary controls to prevent errors and misstatements is key as is the ability to build strong relationships across multiple finance teams.
  • You will need to be a quick learner, who will be able to pick up complex industry and accounting issues and results quickly and communicate them clearly to stakeholders.
