Job Description

The Head of Market Risk Solutions (MRS) reports into the Chief Product Officer, EMEA and is focused on strategy formulation, management and supervision of the end-to-end front office FX and Interest Rates sales and trading activities across products, functions and EMEA geographies.

The position combines oversight and ownership of technology, strategy, leadership, policies, sales, trade execution, risk management, new product and market development, compliance and materially influences the MRS business’ financial, risk and reputational performance.

The successful applicant is an FX and Rates product expert, visionary and team builder. They will be passionate about driving and influencing delivery of solutions to innovation and funds banking clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Set the strategic direction of the business through establishment of annual and multiyear goals, budget and resources in line with broader EMEA and enterprise-wide goals
  • Responsible and accountable for the P&L and success of the MRS business in the region
  • Participate in functional strategy development to compliment MRS ambition.
  • Identify, develop and launch new growth opportunities across products, geographies and client segments.
  • Enable the team to develop the franchise through internal training, external thought leadership, marketing channels and media engagement.
  • Anticipate and develop services or practices to address competitive, regulatory or other business opportunities or issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-geographical stakeholders to drive and influence change agenda - navigating and solving complex problems and setting precedence for future approach.
  • Provide advice and counsel on strategies, concepts, principles, issues and alternatives in relation to the MRS area.
  • Contributor to and voting member of internal committees relating to the business area - FX Pricing Committee, Financial Risk Management Committee, Global Product Committee.
  • Develop and maintain relationships across the ecosystem and institutional capital markets.
  • Represent SVB at industry-specific think tanks and professional forums
  • Act as a global SME partner, providing regional representation for decision making and owner across large global and regional transformation and change initiatives e.g.
  • US Swap Dealer Registration
  • Counterparty Credit Risk Management Project
  • Drive existing and new product development strategy through local and global product management teams, effective business implementation and commercialization
  • Interpret, execute, establish and propose policies and procedures in line with regional and global operational, risk, legal and regulatory change related to area of responsibility.
  • Accountability for sound undertaking of activities and risk management of the MRS desk in line with all applicable regulations, policies and control frameworks.
  • Senior point of escalation for issues pertaining to MRS

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Fundamentally, this role requires an individual who has deep experience and capability of operating in Executive and Senior stakeholder groups, who is extremely capable and experienced in developing and advocating for a strategic product portfolio, owning the growth and development of a Product P&L and who understands the need for strong governance and deep product and systems knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in FX and Rates markets at global financial institutions including Deep end-to-end FX and Interest Rates knowledge across sales, structuring, price discovery, execution and risk management and ability to solve complex problems.
  • High level of awareness of market standards for risk management, control and FX and Rates products, including hands-on practical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment pertaining to the geographies in which SVB has a markets presence.
  • Knowledge of Investment and Commercial Banking and experience of operating in a high growth environment combined with strong technical skills that will help drive creative solutions and new products to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Outstanding ability to focus on core issues and attention to detail with swift execution in a fast paced and highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to coordinate, guide and implement structural and organizational changes.
  • Proven track-record managing or building a business - driving a culture that naturally prioritizes diversity, equity and inclusion. leveraging the team’s unique skillsets, strengths and reinforcing a growth mindset
