Job Description

This is a highly visible and challenging role, as a member of our Senior Management Team, the post holder will work with the Chief Executive to set financial direction and demonstrate good practice leadership and management skills whilst forming strong relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including trustees.
Responsible for all aspects of the charity’s financial planning, accounting and reporting, the post holder will lead our small Finance team, ensuring good practice financial controls, decision making and compliance with UK company and charity laws and regulations. The post holder will also oversee company secretarial responsibilities as well as data protection and information risk management.
The post holder will be accountable for the effective and efficient management and maintenance of this historic building which provides a home for the animals in our care, houses our community veterinary clinic and serves as a hub for staff and volunteers in their everyday work. The post holder will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our facilities, including a small fleet, Health & Safety policies and procedures, business continuity plans and our insurances.
The post holder will also lead on our IT service management and IT infrastructure, overseeing the overall development and maintenance of our data and technology.
We are acting on opportunities for further innovation and sustainable improvement at pace, with no two days the same. You might find yourself spending the day in kennels engaging colleagues in our new policies and procedures or you might be speaking with vendors contributing to the design, procurement and development of our information and technology tools. You will almost always find yourself interacting with staff beyond the back office – interacting with animal-facing staff, our amazing volunteers and working to inspire engagement and support for our vital work from across the charity, the UK and abroad.
Generally you will:

  • Lead, direct and deliver all aspects of our Finance, Facilities and Technology functions
  • Engage, influence, and collaborate with senior staff and trustees to ensure effective delivery of our strategic and
  • operational goals
  • Lead and support a small team
  • Be self-driven, resilient and resourceful

This is a full-time role requiring occasional travel within London.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Charity finance, financial planning, budgeting and good practice financial management, including statutory reporting, fund accounting and leading on VAT and Gift Aid regulatory requirements
  • Leading and overseeing a demonstrably successful team through warm, upbeat and friendly management and support
