Job Description

The ability to successfully business partner and communicate at all levels, translating and presenting key financial data is essential. Pulling from prior experience of working on major projects the Project Financial Controller will have the ability to shape this role accordingly as the business continues to grow and develop.

Role responsibilities include

  • Principal support to Project teams for all financial aspects of projects
  • Ensuring all changes are correctly recorded and evidenced, and reconciliation back to the original As Sold position
  • Management of project cash forecasting, driving optimization of net cash across projects.
  • And ensuring cash-in forecast is aligned to the project delivery programme, and cash-out is logical and understood
  • Review Balance Sheets of projects to ensure accuracy, by reviewing working capital movements each month
  • Maintain monthly forecast files for projects, that consider: the project delivery programme, the actual position and a forecast of costs to complete
  • Maintain register of all risks and opportunities against project Gross Margins.
  • Articulating these items in monthly reporting and meetings with senior project teams
  • Reporting, analyzing and challenging all project costs.
  • Holding monthly financial reviews with each business function, holding them to account on spend against budget and changes to EAC
  • Prepare monthly project finance reports providing monthly and financial status of projects, covering: P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flow, headcount and KPIs
  • Production of accurate and on time budgets and forecasts, that consider all risks and opportunities.
  • Budgets prepared on Trial Balance basis and movements to prior year must be well explained
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly reports on actual performance against budgets and forecast, providing in depth variance analysis
  • Provide timely information required by FP&A department, for production of monthly management accounts and any ad-hoc requests
  • Support the process for costing variation orders through to customer submission.
  • Ensure all costs are backed up by quotes or detailed calculations.
  • Prepare benchmark analysis of costs against actuals where possible
  • Manage sales invoices, milestone payments and related matters.
  • Working closely with other finance teams to manage the cash cycle
  • Oversee the production of budgets and monthly reporting for Direct Cost Centers (Procurement, Engineering and Project Management)
  • Liaise with Finance teams in Japan and Italy to help consolidate global financial reporting
  • Other ad hoc duties as required by finance department or project managers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Prior experience of finance from various major/long term projects.
  • Experience of working in matrix environment with multiple reporting lines would be beneficial
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and be able to work as part of a cross-cultural team
  • An understand or appreciation of Japanese working practices would be beneficial
  • Experience of working within a manufacturing organization producing heavy plant or machinery (e.g. Aerospace, Railway) would be an advantage in this role.

  • Financial Qualification (ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent
