Job Description
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Head of Finance who is a CCAB qualified financial professional, with excellent accounting and analytical skills, who is familiar with SORP and has worked for a charity with fundraised income of £1m or more. You will lead a small finance team (2.2 FTEs), coordinate the annual budget setting process, ensure statutory compliance of finance activities, and lead on the annual account and audit process.
In addition to routine technical responsibilities the successful candidate will add significant value by bringing their expertise, communication and problem solving skills to a range of challenges.
Your duties will include:
- Coordinate the annual budget-setting process
- Oversee the distribution and review of management accounts, investigation of variances against budget and reforecast
- Report on financial performance at relevant departmental and team meetings
- Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts, including appropriate analysis between restricted and unrestricted funds, and maintain records of restricted income and expenditure
- Support the director of finance and resources in providing a secretarial service to the audit and risk committee, and to the Charity’s Trading
- Support the director of finance and resources in ensuring regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain robust financial systems and internal controls
- Ensure accurate and timely submission by agents and staff of VAT, PAYE, gift aid and corporation tax returns and payments to HMRC
- Ensure preparation for and oversee the audit process
- Prepare draft statutory consolidated charity accounts for audit
- Control the cash position of the Charity and its subsidiary, including investment of surplus funds in suitable deposit accounts
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the finance team
- Coach and mentor team ensuring training and personal development needs are met
- Ongoing line management of team including regular one to ones, annual appraisals and team meetings
- Oversee and approve payroll processes
- Take the lead in the administration of group personal pension scheme
- Ensure ongoing auto enrolment compliance
- Ensure the charity takes full advantage of charity VAT reliefs and that gift aid is correctly reclaimed in a timely manner
