Job Description

The role will involve working closely as a senior finance business partner with the divisional triumvirate leadership & management teams to support the delivery of service & financial objectives.  You are a qualified accountant and have previous experience in finance Business Partnering either in the NHS or in other public sector organizations, we would love to hear from you. Working closely with the divisions as their finance expert, you will provide challenge and add strategic value as well as hands on financial support to each division.

The post holder will add value to the divisions by:

  • Providing expert financial advice for large strategic projects or service developments
  • Identifying short and medium term financial and savings plans
  • Generating plans to drive the provision of high quality services and improved profitability
  • Support the drive to embed service line reporting and patient level costing across clinical areas.
  • Benchmarking the Trust against other trusts, using this analysis to drive efficiencies.
  • Actively participating in clinical divisional management meetings
  • Providing expert advice to budget holders over financial issues, develop and deliver complex financial presentations and convey financial concepts, e.g. divisional annual budgets, business cases to groups of senior non-finance managers
  • Providing information and support to budget holders and the division’s management team to aid strategic decision making
  • Developing the strategic financial plan for the division
  • Work closely with other Heads of Finance, to set standards of analysis and reporting and share best practice
  • Lead on the production of high quality monthly financial reports for the division including variance analysis and forecasting information
  • Lead on the preparation of robust divisional forecasts.
  • Work with the divisional management teams and the contracting and income team to ensure assumptions are challenged with appropriate individuals and that the forecast is robust, accurate, deliverable and owned by relevant individuals
  • Benchmark profitability and cost efficiency of services through market analysis or networks and develop ideas for improving or developing profitability
  • Lead on large strategic business cases ensuring that the costs, benefits, risks and income and expenditure of such schemes are captured accurately

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with excellent aptitude and experience of financial business partnering. You will be able to demonstrate engaging with non-finance (and ideally clinical) managers to understand and be enthused by financial management. You will be able to convey complex financial matters to non -finance people. You will be able to think creatively in how the divisions can drive and release efficiencies and you will have a track record of successfully achieving positive transformation in the divisions you supported. You will have experience of providing support to large business cases in a public sector environment. We are also looking for individuals who are committed to development, change and improvement and who work well in dynamic and diverse teams.
