Job Description

Reporting into the IT Solutions Director, the Head of Portfolio Management Office is a brand-new role that will take full responsibility to create and manage a Portfolio Management Centre of Excellence (CofE) in IT, including leading the Portfolio Management Team.

Within the Portfolio Management CofE, you will be in-charge of setting and monitoring standards for IT project delivery, running the IT demand management processes, including logging demand, prioritization demand against business criteria and allocating IT resources to projects and programmes. You will also be coordinating and collaborating with the Enterprise PMO to ensure alignment of IT and corporate project standards and processes.

One of your main responsibilities will be taking full responsibility to initiate, influence, review and maintain project and programme management support strategy, generic standards, processes, procedures, tools and techniques

You will:-

  • Conduct and provide generic and specific support for the development and content of business cases, project plans, and review and audit reports; Initiate project performance investigations and recommend changes where performance is found to be unsatisfactory
  • Be responsible for the setting up of individual project processes and procedures that in depth project and programme management advice and assistance is available to strategic projects
  • Involve in establishing the Configuration Management System in use in the organization and manage it for the project or programme
  • Define standards for key project and programme controls, including planning, risk and issue management, quality control and progress reporting; Define approach to delivering project health checks to ensure compliance with best practice and specified controls, including project status, scope, plans, financial controls, risks, issues and quality

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate clear leadership, with strong and detailed project/programme portfolio management experience in a complex business and programme development life-cycle knowledge along with resolving typical problems associated with the implementation of IT projects and programmes
  • In-depth practical knowledge of project or programme management methodologies, tools and techniques with in depth knowledge of at least one methodology
  • Strong planning, communication and presentation skills, the capability to listen and influence, and is proficient in project quality management
  • Promote compliance with relevant legislation and the need for services, products and working practices to provide equal access and equal opportunity to people with diverse abilities
  • Take a leading role in promoting security throughout own area of responsibilities and collectively in the organization
