Job Description

We're recruiting for an Insight Manager to join us. In this role you'll lead, manage, and develop a small team of investment specialists in the Funds & DFM team, in addition to actively participating in the day-to-day specialist activities of the team. You will be responsible for ensuring all ratings, reviews, and consultancy outputs are delivered on time and to the required quality standard, addressing any issues that may arise.

In this role, you will facilitate revenue generation through the delivery of high-quality Insight-based products and services, representing us in the marketplace as a thought-leader within the UK Financial Services industry (for assigned specialist areas).

This role will also require you to contribute and implement ideas to improve our processes and increase efficiency and productivity, as well being involved in developing and promoting new propositions in our key markets, working alongside the Head of Insight and Commercial team.
What you'll be doing

  • Leading, managing, motivating and developing the team to ensure high levels of performance and capability
  • Keeping up to date with developments within UK Financial Services (and more widely where relevant), in terms of investment solutions, products, the market and the industry
  • Building and managing effective relationships with a network of relevant industry contacts, to develop and maintain market knowledge, to gather information pertinent to company’s products, and to provide and develop relevant contacts for commercial opportunities
  • Liaising with internal and external individuals to identify the future data needs of clients and company in general
  • Providing specialist insight into the design and development of data within company’s databases
  • Contributing towards the formulation, maintenance and development of methodologies related to company’s products in the relevant investment areas.
  • Utilizing a combination of quantitative and qualitative attributes of each solution to deliver assessments that reflect the strength and quality of the solution. Identifying, evaluating and developing opportunities for new products
  • Taking responsibility for completing the annual Ratings cycle for assigned specialist areas, from the determination of criteria, preparation for and presentation at annual Ratings Conference, to the scoring and ranking of solutions, involving the manipulation of large volumes of data by the team and the production of reports to meet annual deadlines
  • Providing analysis for fund panels and representing us on the investment committees of advisory firms, as and when required
  • Developing, researching and delivering content addressing Provider / Intermediary / Consumer audiences related to assigned specialist areas - including publications, articles, commentary, newsletters, website content, PR activity, etc
  • Supporting the Commercial team to generate sales opportunities, attending and contributing to client meetings and other commercial interactions where appropriate
  • Delivering agreed client projects on time and to high quality standards, within budgeted resource
  • Contributing towards company thought leadership in client markets, for assigned specialist areas
  • Representing us at industry forums and events in a speaking capacity and act as a Defaqto media spokesperson, as agreed with the Marketing team

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Graduate in a mathematical / scientific / engineering discipline, or equivalent intellectual ability demonstrated through experience
  • CFA or equivalent and demonstrated technical ability
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK Financial Services
  • Understanding of modern investment portfolio theory
  • Understanding of the various UK investment product structures
  • Understanding of the various UK retail platform and product structures
  • Knowledge of the relevant distribution channels
  • Managing people within a team environment
  • Significant experience of working within the UK asset management and/or wealth management industry – with the ability to quickly establish credibility and authority as a thought-leader within a particular specialist area
  • Collating, analyzing and reporting on large volumes of data
  • Designing and writing reports
  • Designing, writing and delivering presentations to large groups of people (both internal and external)
  • Strong people management skills
  • Highly numerate, with excellent data analysis, manipulation and interpretation skills
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex concepts in an easy to understand manner
  • Strong creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan and priorities a busy workload to meet deadlines
  • Good presentation skills
