Job Description
  • Coordinate the annual budget-setting process
  • Oversee the distribution and review of management accounts
  • Variances against budget and reforecast
  • Report on financial performance at relevant departmental and team meetings
  • Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts, including appropriate analysis between restricted and unrestricted funds, and maintain records of restricted income and expenditure
  • Support the director of finance and resources in ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Develop and maintain robust financial systems and internal controls
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission by agents and staff of VAT, PAYE, gift aid and corporation tax returns and payments to HMRC
  • Ensure preparation for and oversee the audit process
  • Prepare draft statutory consolidated charity accounts for audit
  • Control the cash position of the Charity and its subsidiary, including investment of surplus funds in suitable deposit accounts
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the finance team
  • Coach and mentor team ensuring training and personal development needs are met
  • Ongoing line management of team including regular one to ones, annual
  • appraisals and team meetings
  • Oversee and approve payroll processes
  • Take the lead in the administration of group personal pension scheme
  • Ensure ongoing auto enrolment compliance
  • Ensure the charity takes full advantage of charity VAT reliefs and that gift aid is
  • correctly reclaimed in a timely manner

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • CCAB qualified accountant
  • Accounting experience at a senior level in a charity with significant fundraised income
  • Cross-departmental project management
  • Taking the lead on statutory account and related audit file preparation
  • Extensive experience of managing finance staff
  • Excellent technical accounting and analytical skills
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Good all-round communications and demonstrable interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead teams and projects
  • Ability to organize time, priorities and meet deadlines
  • Pragmatic approach to the achievement of goals and resolution of problems
  • Calm and reliable disposition
