Job Description

You will be a key member of company’s management team, providing high-quality finance leadership and direction to members of the Department in relation to a wide range of financial issues.

You will ensure that the Finance team provides a high-quality service to staff by providing leadership, direction and ensuring all Finance team members are appropriately managed and supported to perform their roles effectively. This role will enable the Department to respond proactively and with agility to the fast-changing financial and operational environment in which we work. Along with their peers, the DHoF is expected to provide leadership and foster the values of team-working, communication and relationship management in order to engender a culture of respect, trust and effective service delivery. The post holder will develop effective relationships across the wider University and with partner organizations, providing expert opinion and advice and contributing to University-wide goals, sharing best practice and keeping abreast of changing environments and policies.

As one of two DHoFs, you will be expected to provide cover for each other and be able to provide reports across all 16 units, scrutinizing and challenging budgets and submissions. Each DHoF will be expected to develop their own specialisms. In particular, this role will lead and effectively manage the Centre for Tropical Medicine’s overseas Asian and Africa Programmes (AAPs). This includes the cash advance process and reconciliation, together with FX treatment of new initiatives in line with University policy to ensure risks are effectively mitigated.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

It is essential that you hold an account qualification such as FCA, FCMA, FCCA or FCPFA and will have proven and demonstrable experience of working with multiple currencies across multiple countries including FX risk mitigation. Confident in dealing with senior stakeholders across the department and wider University, you will come with proven leadership and teamwork skills, especially in communicating with and developing other staff. The successful candidate will be experienced in communicating financial, management accounts, processes and functions to non-financial staff. You will also be an effective change manager with a proven track record of proactively analyzing and successfully driving change activity.
