Job Description

This exciting new role represents an opportunity to shape and drive future-state data risk and control strategy with associated responsibility for team management, planning and outcome delivery. The successful candidate will gain exposure to global Data transformation programmes and interactions with global stakeholders, including institutional clients and global markets business lines, at one of the largest full-service investment banking groups in the world.

The EMEA Chief Data Office (CDO) has responsibility to deliver the Data Quality Program in addition to a broad remit to implement and embed improved data governance and data management practices throughout the EMEA region. The Data Quality Program, centered on addressing regulatory feedback on company’s approach to data, has the following objectives: 1) establish a UK entity-focused book of work that delivers significant regulatory, control and commercial benefits including remediation of material data quality issues 2) strengthen Senior Manager engagement in data quality initiatives, including BCBS 239 and front-to-back working groups 3) improve engagement with the regulator 4) establish connection with strategically important programs outside of the EMEA CDO, and 5) demonstrate engagement and influence with the Group Transformation initiative.

Within the EMEA CDO, the recently established Data Risk and Control team has primary responsibility for data risk identification, measurement and reporting, data policy adoption and compliance, data control framework performance and issue management process, and regulatory and audit response and action tracking.

Given the scale, complexity and ambition of company’s global data transformation, the CDO team is dynamic, demanding, agile, flexible, and responsive to fast changing needs. The successful candidate will need to be adept at working in this environment, handle ambiguity and complexity well, be able to deliver on multiple responsibilities and most importantly be extremely ‘hands on’.

The role will require interaction with products and functions globally, the Enterprise Chief Data Office (ECDO), global transformation teams, EMEA stakeholders and 2nd/ 3rd line of defense teams. As such, excellent communication skills are required to communicate and negotiate internally, often at a senior level.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary point of contact between UK Program and 2nd/3rd line of defense teams
  • Oversight of UK Program deliveries to ensure delivery in accordance with findings/recommendations
  • Ownership of the delivery against and ultimate closure of corrective action plans completely, accurately and on time
  • Support and coordinate with business lines and global functions on enterprise data governance strategy roll out, including new data risk taxonomy and associated changes to key risk indicators and control framework
  • Coordination with other regional CDO teams to ensure consistent treatment of findings, corrective actions plans and response to 2nd/3rd line of defense reviews
  • Ensure all relevant stakeholders including UK Exco, EMEA and global transformation, local regulators, and entity boards are informed on the progress/challenges/risks to addressing findings and closing corrective action plans on time

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Significant banking or financial services experience
  • Experience of working very closely with 2nd/3rd line of defense teams and addressing findings
  • Experience and evidence of delivery within large, cross-functional data programs
  • Ability to handle complexity, ambiguity and a fast changing, often demanding work environment
  • Deep subject matter expertise around data risk, control framework and policy development
  • Relevant data and / or project management qualifications/ certificates / experience
  • Excellent communications skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with large, complex and diverse teams
  • Ability the produce enterprise-wide, thematic analysis for data risk and communicate with global stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of data regulation
  • Interaction with regulators and direct experience of S166 reviews are highly desired
  • Bachelors/University degree or equivalent experience, potentially Masters/MBA degree
