Job Description

The main focus of the Finance Manger role is the provision of high quality and timely financial information to support decision making, and ultimately improve the profitability of the business. The job holder will be expected to work closely with divisional and other managers, but particularly the members of the Sales and R&D teams, providing a customer focused service and facilitating a two way flow of information. The knowledge gained will be used to improve the accuracy of financial reporting, and to develop the most efficient ways of providing managers with the information and insight required to enable them to perform effectively.

The job holder will also support the Financial Controller in ensuring that the Finance department operates efficiently, high standards of internal control are maintained, and that maximum benefit is obtained from IT systems including Epicor ERP.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively working with managers, particularly the members of the Sales and R&D teams, to improve knowledge and provide support to enable them to perform their roles effectively.
  • Provision of management accounts and other financial reporting of a high quality, and which is circulated in accordance with deadlines specified by the Group Finance Director.
  • Conducting monthly reviews of financial results with management to ensure that they are as accurate as possible, and that reasons for large variances are known, prior to circulation to the Exec Team.
  • Playing an active role in the development of the Annual Operating Plan, ensuring that a robust model is available for use within the business, and assisting managers as necessary to streamline processes and improve data accuracy.
  • Assuming responsibility for the accurate recording and reporting of expenditure against R&D projects, ensuring that adequate monitoring is in place to highlight potential overspends.
  • Ensuring that the current status of all R&D projects is accurately reflected in the accounts, including revenue recognition of project related income, deferred income balances, and project related work in progress.
  • Assisting managers with capital investment decisions and the preparation of expenditure applications, to ensure that schemes offering the best returns are put forward for approval.
  • Team management of 1 direct report

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • To be a Qualified Accountant - ACCA or CIMA strongly preferred
  • Recent experience of working with standard costing, variance analysis and product costing – Desirable but not essential
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and implement solutions to resolve problems
  • To be creative and able to translate financial data/analysis to non-finance individuals
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
