Job Description

You will be responsible for analyzing the global portfolio for Global Risk Solutions (GRS) and advising the Head of Underwriting Planning, Performance, and Portfolio Management on setting and executing on portfolio management strategies to achieve our aspirations. This role will monitor performance of the portfolio globally and conduct scenario analysis to ensure we are making the right strategic decisions to move the GRS organization towards a low 90s combined ratio and achieve our $1 billion underwriting profit opportunity. This leader will ensure our Global Product Leaders and Business CUOs have the information needed to make strategic portfolio decisions for their respective line/business unit and provides oversight to our ceded reinsurance program design.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Head of Underwriting Planning, Performance, and Portfolio Management to create the integrated underwriting strategy & plan with a focus on the underwriting key performance indicators (KPIs) and associated metrics
  • Conducts scenario analysis to support the Head of Underwriting Planning, Performance, and Portfolio Management with underwriting strategy setting and plan formulation
  • Advises business and Global Product Leaders on setting and executing on portfolio management strategies in alignment with the overall GRS underwriting strategy
  • Provides oversight to ceded reinsurance program design and strategy
  • Partners with Global Reinsurance, Finance, and Actuarial, and LM Reinsurance to align assumed reinsurance strategy with outwards reinsurances.
  • Drives a consistent portfolio management framework across GRS, standardizing core metrics and visualizations
  • Proactively identifies and analyzes meaningful groupings of risks that can drive loss ratio performance
  • Champions alignment on an execution plan for the key risk groupings identified
  • Monitors ongoing performance across SBUs and products, to determine any deviations from plan and provide regular reports to the GRS President of Underwriting
  • Collates, synthesizes, and shares market sensing and competitive information generated from SBUs, Product Boards, or other teams
  • Provides insights and trends to cross-functional peers (e.g., Claims, ERM, Actuarial, Finance)
  • Creates recommendations for portfolio shaping (areas to grow, fix, or maintain) and develops action plans
  • Acts as an executive thought leader in all decisions related to portfolio strategies for GRS and is a key contributor to building the underwriting strategy for GRS
  • Leads a high performing team which drives results at a global level and develops strong relationships with senior underwriting, strategy, and finance leaders across GRS.
  • Develops and nurtures key talent and drives improvement in the overall technical capability of GRS.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external business partners and foster a culture of effective working relationships
  • Demonstrable experience of getting best results collaboratively with internal/ external stakeholders and the ability to create an environment that brings out the best in people
  • Demonstrable experience of contributing to strategy with Senior Leadership members
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple initiatives
  • The ability to embrace and drive change initiatives with a strong track record of adopting business change success
  • Ability to work independently to meet team goals, and to work as a member of a high performing team to accomplish goals
  • Ability to manage and mentor a team
  • Good appreciation of the commercial impacts of change to product line
  • US market/Global RI market knowledge
