Job Description
  • Lead the annual Accounts Rules audit, owning the relationship with the auditors and managing the audit from start to finish.
  • Distribution to fee earners of annual declaration returns to ensure all necessary information is collected for the Accounts Rules audit.
  • Follow up with secretaries and fee earners to ensure completion.
  • Roll out of online training courses to Finance and fee earners in respect of the  Accounts Rules.
  • Act as the first point of contact for fee earners in relation to questions about compliance with the  Accounts Rules.
  • Develop strong relationships with senior directors of the Business Services function and partners of the Firm. Provide financial assistance and guidance to the budget holders, particularly as part of the budgeting process.
  • Provision of assistance to fee earners in their compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular the  Accounts Rules.
  • Includes circulation of quarterly reports of client balances and follow up to ensure that client money is returned promptly to the client as soon as there is no longer any proper reason to hold those funds.
  • Cash flow management and preparation of cash flow forecasts for London, including proposed draw downs on the borrowing facilities.
  • Liaising with all offices to understand their cash flow forecasts and ensure that their operating costs are met and that borrowing costs are minimized, by transferring funds to and from the offices.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly management information and covenant packs for bank reporting, including a global cash flow forecast and integrated balance sheet.
  • Reconciliation of partner capital accounts and any associated partner capital loans, including arranging repayments of these loans where applicable.
  • Maintenance of relationships with key individuals at the banks, including the completion of annual questionnaires in relation to client accounts.
  • Reconciliation of assigned Elite general ledger control accounts, including partner car loan accounts.
  • Preparation of special bills for client secondments etc.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual preparation of commission calculations in respect of consultancy agreements.
  • Day-to-day managerial responsibility of the London Cashiering and Accounts Payable teams, including recruitment, training, and appraisals (interim and annual).
  • Represent Finance on project teams formed to ensure the smooth financial integration of new areas of operation, both in the UK and globally.
  • Review and check the UK payroll and the provision of summary reports to the Financial Controller.
  • Cover for the UK payroll manager during periods of absence and holiday, dealing with queries that arise.
  • Contribute to the development of the Finance content on the Firms intranet.
  • Develop content for and run the Finance induction sessions for new employees and trainees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professionally qualified (ACA, ACCA) accountant with minimum 5 year PQE
  • Legal sector experience is highly desired
  • Highly literate, especially Excel
  • Commercial aptitude with a modern, pro-active approach
  • Excellent communicator and manager with high levels of interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and inspire others
