Job Description

As Deputy Director of Finance and Operations (DDFO) you will have delegated responsibility from the Directors of Finance and Operations (DFOs) for ensuring the effective provision of strategic and operational support to NDM’s largest and most complex business units, including but not limited to the Centre for Tropical Medicine, Big Data Institute (NDM), Target Discovery Institute and the Pandemic Science Institute, including the delivery of strategic projects.

You will be responsible for effective process improvement across all academic units, ensuring consistency of best practice, integrative and agile working across all areas and identification and delivery of business efficiencies. You will take ownership of the development of resilient structures that de-risk the provision of high-quality Professional Services support to the scientific and educational endeavors of the Department.

Developing effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels will be critical to your success of delivering the above, and you will therefore come armed with a breadth of knowledge and expertise in building and maintaining collaborative partnerships. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of contributing to the strategic direction of a department, ideally within a higher education/research environment.

Experience of preparing and managing significant financial budgets (>£5m) will be essential, as well as good working knowledge of HR practices, and of scientific grant system. You will have a successful record of achievement in managing change, and you will be adept at setting your own priorities and working to deadlines, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
