Job Description

The Director is expected to be able to operate both strategically, supporting the creation of multi-year roadmaps and plans for the UK financial crime team and also tactically, supporting complex AML investigations, client issues and working on projects. They must be willing and able to take on any task, no matter how small or large.

The role holder will be required to understand and communicate complex issues in plain English to the business and clients and have a focus on finding solutions that are commercial whilst protecting companyand clients in accordance with the letter and spirit of the laws and regulations that apply to us. They will be able to see both the bigger picture and be able to dig into the detail.

The candidate needs to have strong relationship building and influencing skills that balance achievement of results with bringing our business partners along with us on the journey. They will need to have a strong track record of leadership and coaching and developing team members.

The candidate needs to be hard-working, self-motivated and able to work independently in a team-orientated environment. They should possess a strong sense of urgency, be able to think beyond the initial set of facts or issues and have a strong orientation for probing for less than apparent solutions. They must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the UK MLRO in continuing the development of the AML / CTF, Sanctions and Fraud programmes 
  • Timely and effective escalation of issues where appropriate
  • Supporting the UK MLRO and EMEA leadership team with creating a culture of risk management deep within the business units 
  • Creating action plans in response to issues and executing on those plans
  • Supporting both local and global organizational project initiatives to ensure adequate controls and risk mitigation strategies are sufficient to prevent exposure to the firm, from a financial crime perspective. 
  • Building, developing and maintaining strong external tactical relationships with industry and law enforcement
  • Be a subject matter expert to coach those within the team and support the business with advice and guidance 
  • Maintaining current industry awareness and assessment of impact to the firm of legislative change
  • Technical development of a small team of people in relation financial crime and fraud

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience of working in a financial crime management role. 
  • Good understanding and experience of financial crime risks in the technology sector.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills demonstrated across all leadership levels. 
  • An ability to work independently in completing assigned duties to sometimes tight deadlines
  • Strong planning, coordination and analytical skills
  • Ability to understand sometimes complex proposals to synthesize corresponding financial crime risk and appropriate risk mitigations.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Industry connections and network relevant to the role 
  • Strong judgment and critical thinking skills
  • A strong track record of delivery against goals both on what and the how. 
  • The ability to work independently and challenge effectively
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • An ability to quickly gain a thorough knowledge of SVB’s bank operations and products
  • An interest in the technology sector and venture capital / private equity transactions.
