Job Description
  • Review procedures and undertake analysis to ensure that the Museum and all entities are compliant with HMRC guidance and legislation.
  • Advise other departments on the tax implications of projects and new initiatives.
  •  Prepare other UK/US tax returns e.g. corporation tax returns, customs returns, and payroll related returns.
  •  Compile the year end audit file for the pension scheme accounts and liaise with auditors.
  •  Provide schedules to allow the preparation of the consolidated British Museum annual accounts.
  •  Provide information, analysis and returns, to other bodies .

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  •  An individual who is confident, with good communication skills and is prepared to accept a challenge and project to develop in the role.
  •  Energetic and self-motivated, able to work independently, and as part of a team.
  •  Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to priorities own workload to deliver against agreed deadlines.
  •  Demonstrates good problem-solving skills uses initiative and proactively seeks alternative methods to resolve issues/problems.*
  • ACA, ACCA or related qualification is essential.
  • Experience in preparing VAT returns and good technical knowledge of relevant accounting standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex VAT/Tax rules to colleagues and other departments.
  •  Ability to work under pressure, problem solve and priorities workload effectively.
  •  Understanding of non-profit finance would be preferable but not essential
