Job Description

This is a broad-ranging role, responsible for the financial management and compliance of all entities in UK & Ireland. The successful applicant will hold overall responsibility/accountability for banking, insurances, business operations (UK) and health and safety (UK). This role is split into three main areas:
Finance

  • Protects the vital assets of the regional UK/Ireland business, ensures compliance with financial regulations, closes the books correctly, and communicates value and risk issues to the Head of the UK/Ireland Region (Regional Head) and/or group Finance, as appropriate, in a timely manner.
  • Oversees an efficient and effective regional finance organization providing a variety of services to the business such as financial planning and analysis, controlling, business support, management reporting as well as other finance operations.
  • Providing financial leadership and aligning business and finance strategy to grow the regional business and to manage costs, in accordance with the global growth plans.
  • Implements the group’s M&A strategy on the regional level, with both responsibility and accountability for the successful execution of post-merger integration activities in all areas concerning Finance and Business Operations.
  • Stimulates and drives the timely execution of change in the finance function or the regional business. Working closely with the Regional Head and leadership team, selectively drive business improvement initiatives such as improved cost reduction, procurement, pricing execution, and other process improvements and innovations that add value to the organization.
  • Relationship holder with banks, insurance broker, tax advisors and auditors.

Business Operations

  • Line management responsibility for the PharmaLex UK Senior Manager Business Operations, Senior Commercial Manager and Commercial Sales Assistant.
  • Accountable for ensuring the compliance of the UK office with applicable health and safety requirements.
  • Overall accountability for lease compliance, building maintenance and ensuring Business Operations delivers effective internal/external services and liaison with the landlords for all sites in UK.
  • Talent management and modelling company culture
  • Builds and supports a high performing and motivated team. Responsible for ensuring proper staffing, training, performance management and career development to support all direct functional responsibilities. Invests time into talent development, including supporting team
    members’ career goals.
  • Models the organization’s culture and participates in business reviews and other operating rhythms.

Other

  • Acts as Business Partner to the Regional Head.
  • Participates in the UK and Ireland Regional Senior Leadership Team.
  • Facilitates timely and successful integration of the region into AB’s accounting organization; planning and executing changes required to meet the requirements of a global organization that’s publicly listed
  • Appointment as director of the organization’s legal entities, as required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fully Qualified accountant with proficiency in UK and Irish GAAP, as well as ideally working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Advanced level knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assimilate and summaries financial information in an appropriate context.
  • Strategic and commercial acumen, as well as the ability and willingness to be hands-on.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, dynamic
    team.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management and accounting.
  • Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource development.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities, proposing new ways of creating efficiencies,
    and guiding regional investment in people and systems.
  • Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting.
  • Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to
    develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving
    environment.
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Resilience, tact, integrity and credibility.
