Job Description
  • To assist the Finance Manager in managing any financial matters
  • To deliver accurate and timely management reports
  • To be the main point of contact for all finance issues regarding the regional groups and the specialist sections.
  • This includes producing monthly reports and covering Income and Expenditure and Cash Flows.
  • Managing the budget process to ensure that all branches have submitted a budget and uploading budgets into Finance System
  • Prepare annual Capitation Calculations for approval
  • To be the first officer for verifying and overseeing the work of the junior team members
  • To support the Financial Controller in ad hoc activities, project work and financial system implementation and maintenance.
  • To reconcile all Balance sheet accounts including the bank accounts, prepayments, accruals etc,
  • For the group regularly correcting any errors to ensure the timely and accurate production of monthly management reporting
  • In addition to technical financial skills, the post holder will need to be capable of dealing with non-financial staff and volunteers, particularly the Chairmen of the regional groups and the specialist sections
  • To lead on preparing the monthly management accounts, variance analysis, calculating and posting of monthly accruals/prepayments.
  • Deferrals and all other month end journals.
  • Oversee the management accountants production of monthly project reports for each project manager
  • Responsible for preparing and managing the balance sheet reconciliations to ensure that transactions have been properly recorded and are free from error/omissions
  • Update the daily cashflow to assist with the production of the Cashflow Forecast
  • Prepare and manage the Quarterly VAT returns to be reviewed by the Finance Manager
  • Monitoring the group's investment portfolio and accounting for and posting quarterly journals for the recognition of the resulting income and expenses
  • To manage, monitor, reconcile and post the journals relating to the fixed assets register for the group
  • Assist the Finance Manager in producing the statutory accounts for both the company and the group
  • Provide information and assistance to the external auditors
  • To reconcile and produce monthly management reports relating to events and Consultancy Service - and to discuss and explain these to staff up to Group Head level
  • To assist/support new and existing staff members on the financial system and team procedures
  • Be part of finance team rota for checking weekly payment runs for approvals
  • Ensure that the accounting records are maintained to a high standard.
  • Oversee the processes to enter all transactions so that financial reporting is prompt and efficient
  • To bring to the attention of the Facilities Manager any actual or potential health and safety issues at the earliest opportunity to allow remedial actions to be taken

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Educated to degree standard or equivalent accountancy experience
  • Fully Qualified from one of the recognized Accountancy bodies (e.g AAT/CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
  • Experience as a Financial Accountant or an equivalent role
  • Experience of working within a similar role within a charity or not for profit organization
  • Advanced knowledge of excel
  • Experience of managing a computerized accounts system, including producing reports
  • Able to work under pressure at certain times of the year and meet deadlines
  • Excellent numeracy skills
  • Experience of working within a similar role within a charity or not for profit organization
  • Experience of supporting other team members with accounting activities
  • A demonstrable passion for including Equity, Diversity and Belonging principles across all areas of work

  • A willingness to attend relevant internal and external courses that assist in enabling the effectiveness of this role
  • Compliance with the annual appraisal programmer
