Job Description

You will join the Department’s Finance Team, working alongside and reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the Head of Finance and Administration. This role will share the management of the Department’s Finance Team with the Finance Manager. The Finance Team comprises a Senior Finance Officer, a part-time Finance Officer and a Finance Apprentice.

You will work with the Finance Manager in the financial management of the department including: financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and planning; financial assurance and compliance, promoting awareness and compliance across the Department; reporting to committees and Divisional Office; and process review and development. You will ensure high levels of compliance with University, project funder and Department rules, policies and procedures and work with the Research Support Team on new research grants and projects.

This is an opportunity to develop into a University Finance Manager role, offering the opportunity to gain a broad range of experience, and for involvement in projects and groups in the wider University.

Alternatively, the role may also suit someone who is more experienced who is seeking a part-time Finance Manager role. While this post is fixed-term for one year, the Department would look to extend the post if the arrangement works well.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You should be educated to degree level, with strong accounting knowledge, evidenced by a CCAB accounting qualification or progress to the final stages of qualification. (In exceptional circumstances account may also be taken of skills gained through experience). You will have excellent IT skills, with good spreadsheet skills, and a thorough understanding of financial systems, including experience of using such systems. You should have effective time-management and prioritization skills, and a flexible approach to work. You will also have the ability to work accurately when under pressure and ability to set and meet objectives and standards on own initiative and the ability to manage a range of tasks whilst meeting tight deadlines. You should have excellent communication skills.
