Job Description
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including effective performance feedback, training, appropriate task delegation and otherwise empower employees to perform their job and meet deadlines.
  • Provide oversight, direction and workload balancing to the employees on the reporting team to ensure successful completion of tasks and deadlines for the unit.
  • Oversee revenue recognition process and associated receivables/payments from funders.
  • Oversee and/or prepare internal reports for Internews management teams, including review and investigation of discrepancies, including management reports
  • Oversee support to the Audit Manager, during audits, by providing general ledger information and reconciling amounts reported on funder financial reports.
  • Financial Analysis on various aspects of the business including future trends, going concern, multi-currency analysis, etc.
  • Oversee and/or prepare staff budgeting and forecasting, including monitoring actuals versus budget
  • Due diligence assessment for implementing partners and signoffs
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience of financial and management accounts systems/processes, including annual accounts, budgeting, cost allocations, audits and external reporting- Essential
  • Experience of liaising with and advising non-financial managers and staff- Essential
  • Experience of managing external professional and service provider relationships- Essential
  • Experience of external (donor project) reporting- Essential
  • Experience of working in, or dealing with, developing countries and fragile states- Desirable
  • Proven ability to effectively mentor direct reports - Essential
  • Understanding of charity finance regulations and systems- Essential
  • Accounting qualification - Essential
  • Advanced Excel skills (considered necessary for this role)- Essential
  • A willingness and ability to adopt a hands-on approach to your work- Essential
  • Be comfortable working in a collaborative and diverse environment- Essential
  • Strong communication, liaison and interpersonal skills to work effectively with people at all levels- Essential
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and creative thinking skills- Essential
  • Willingness to travel- Desirable
