Reviewing proposals for any budget growth to see that they are costed, reasonable and evidenced
Supporting directorate school resource planning, assessing the implications of service proposals, providing financial modelling and analysis of service options for projects and initiatives
Supporting managers, Head Teachers or Schools Business Managers to identify savings and efficiency opportunities,growth requirements through data and evidence from a variety of sources, including recognized good practice by other similar organizations
Financial information feeding into the Accounts is materially accurate, checked and fully supported by referenced documentation ,explanations as appropriate
High level checks to be undertaken of monthly and quarterly forecasts, challenging budget holders andschools
Attend directorates as the Finance lead for providing finance information, management accountancy and financial planning specialist support on a regular basis.
Ensure the closure of the annual accounts is fully planned, in conjunction with the Chief Accountant, and take the lead to ensure that directorates understand their responsibilities, all deadlines are met
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified CCAB or CIMA with post qualification experience
Knowledge and understanding of strategic financial management and financial regulatory frameworks in accountancy in the public sector
Good knowledge of financial appraisal, and financial modelling techniques for projects, general support to services, schools decision making
Evidence to support knowledge of changes in government legislation in relation to local government
Ability to quickly establish credibility with Heads of Service, Corporate Directors, Head Teachers , Schools Business Managers
Experience of providing strategic financial advice and critical decision making.
