Job Description
The Specialist Computer Sciences team supports academics, researchers and students in a range of laboratory/workshop/field based activities including those involving undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, enterprise and public engagement. Research support covers all areas, in particular Computer Science and Engineering Science disciplines.
You will primarily be responsible for managing Computational Facilities team within Specialist Computer Sciences. Your team will comprise of 6 technicians providing technical knowledge and support for Linux teaching estate in the faculty of Science and Engineering as well as HPC, Deep Learning and Big Data research support.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
You will have management experience and be able to balance your management responsibilities with delivering specialist technical support. You will be able to manage a team of technical staff, taking responsibility for the effective running of specialist activities within that team. You will have a flexible approach to work and an ability to work on your own initiative. Strong communication skills and a commitment to quality service will also play an important role in being successful in this post. Experience of working in a teaching & learning environment would be particularly useful. You will be skilled in project organization incorporating resource planning and management, specification and implementation of facilities designed to meet high-end computational needs as well as teaching requirements. Your technical knowledge will include mass deployment & management of Linux teaching devices, managing and provisioning HPC systems, MySQL/Oracle, Big Data, Deep learning and Information Security principles. You will need to satisfy minimum levels of security clearance with respect to the data being managed.
