Job Description

Key Duties will include:

  • Maintaining the internal database to ensure that the information is accurate and up to date.
  • Registering legal entities with HMRC for VAT/SA/NI and MGD as appropriate Obtain the VAT number/MGD reference and UTRs of the legal entities so that the various returns can be filed on time
  • Input information from accounts and other documentation to prepare a draft tax return and tax calculation for the client to check and approve for filing. Be able to check the tax calculation to ensure that the various sources that a client may have are correctly charged to tax/NI. File the approved returns with HMRC by the f filing deadline where possible.
  • Request additional documentation in support of the return i.e. P60/P45s, dividend vouchers, pension information for both those that make contributions and those that are in receipt of pensions.
  • Record the receipt of P11d's and then file with HMRC when figures have been provided by the accountant. Appraise the client of the charges and make sure that the P11d copies are held in the files for inclusion on the relevant tax return.
  • Deal with calls and correspondence from HMRC in respect of VAT/MGD and income tax. Prepare paperwork and request reports from the accounts team to support queries and enquiries from HMRC.
  • Answer client queries regarding income tax. Be aware of the potential chargeability to capital gains tax, but not the preparation of capital gains chargeable to tax, be able to report capital gains in a tax return.
  • Have/acquire a knowledge of the benefits that are paid in UK and which are or are not chargeable tax
  • When dealing with HMRC investigations ensure to liaise with Client/Office associates.
  • Submit tax forms
  • Communicating with HMRC, resolve any client queries.
  • Day to day contact with clients and dealing with their queries.
  • Our ideal candidate is analytical and methodical, with previous experience in Accounts/Tax Administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Have a knowledge of the various deadlines for filing income tax, VAT and MGD returns and the penalty regimes and timings where deadlines have not been met Have, an understanding of a set of accounts and capital allowances/balancing charges Have, an understanding of the basis of assessment for tax purposes in the first years of trading and the final years of trading where the accounting period is to a date other than 31st March or 5th April Have an understanding of income from property and the ability to put together the income and allowable expenditure in a tax return and how to deal with loan interest for the purchase of a property for income tax purposes and the changes to claiming of this for tax purposes. Have, an understanding of the expenses and benefits legislation, the operation of PAYE and tax codes. Be aware of the booklet 480 (HMRC bible to expenses and benefits) Be aware of student loans and how these are repaid and what income is taken, into account in calculating this repayment Be familiar with the government gateway and agent services account. Become familiar with the various screens of information of the various taxes so that you can help clients and the accounts teams with any queries Have good knowledge of personal taxation and be capable of researching the internet and willing to contact HMRC for help and advice. Good administrative and organisational skills are an essential requirement in order to follow tasks to their conclusion. Problem solving abilities and a strong desire to see matters through to a satisfactory conclusion are also needed/required. Be able to work on their own but also need to be a team player as they will touch most areas of the business and liaise with both clients and colleagues. A keen eye for detail and an analytical mind and good math skills. Outstanding communication skills (written and oral). The role involves working in a confidential environment
