Job Description

This is an important time to be joining Healthcare Improvement Scotland. With changes in the Executive Team, and a growing range of responsibilities in supporting higher quality health and social care in Scotland, this presents a major opportunity to make your mark in a national organisation.

As the Director you will provide strong, visible and engaging leadership to the Finance, Procurement, Corporate Governance and Planning/Performance Management functions, ensuring that the highest professional standards are maintained. You will have a strong commitment to supporting and motivating people to give their best and in building high performing teams.

You will provide the core financial accountability role within HIS, supporting the Chief Executive as Accountable Officer. You will also ensure the organisation has a robust financial strategy for the short, medium and long-term which enables the delivery of the organisation’s strategic objectives.You will be responsible for ensuring effective management arrangements are in place for the corporate governance of the organisation, including support to the Chair and the Board. This also includes the development and oversight of the risk management system.Additionally, you will provide leadership for the development and co-ordination of the planning and performance management function within HIS.

A natural team player, you will also work collaboratively with other members of the Executive Team in supporting the delivery of improvements in health and social care. You will also be adept at building alliances with a range of stakeholders such as Directors of Finance and Planning within the NHS, and senior staff and colleagues within Scottish Government.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Educated to degree level or equivalent, you must be a fully qualified Accountant, holding CCAB membership with significant post qualifying experience.You will understand the importance of retaining a very firm grasp on the day to day delivery of the directorate’s objectives, whilst influencing and shaping the future strategy of Healthcare Improvement Scotland. You will have a high level of political acumen and resilience in handling the demanding aspects of the role.
