Job Description

We are also responsible for contacting out of hours staff or on call staff with requests to attend to patients or to deal with hospital related issues.

Calls need to be transferred to the right department and person quickly, to ensure that an effective service is given to all callers. The switchboard is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week and includes all Bank Holidays. Because of the shift patterns, lone working is an integral part of the job, you would be working alone for the night shift 9pm – 8am, and for the major part of weekends and Bank Holidays. We pride ourselves on the standard of customer service we deliver and you will be given full training in all aspects of the job.

The job can see surges in demand at peak times and for less busy times, there is other admin work that can be undertaken.

An understanding of the need for confidentiality and previous telephone experience is essential as is the ability to work both in a team and unsupervised.

Duties can also cover working within other departments in the Estates & Facilities Directorate including, General Office, Accommodation and administration support within the Estates & Facilities Division, depending on staffing levels.

Flexibility is important – we have a flexible attitude to requested time off where this is possible, as we recognize that this is important to working relationships and work/life balance. At the same time, you could be asked to change shift, or cover an unmanned shift at short notice to meet the needs of the department.

Knowledge of windows based applications is also essential for this post, as the switchboard is fully computerized.

The Telecoms team is a small, friendly group of staff who are very supportive of each other and who are driven by achieving excellent customer service and organizational needs.
