Job Description

Job Purpose and Scope:

  • Prepare various financial accounting and reporting tasks to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports to accurately reflect the company’s financial results and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and analysis of management reporting information to support and inform management decisions with regards to financial planning, control and performance management processes.
  • Exercise independent judgement within defined practices and procedures, apply intermediate level of subject matter knowledge to solve problems of moderate complexity.
  • Mentor and support the graduate accountant to support delivery of day to day activities.
  • Liase with external accounting provider to maintain consistency across retained and outsourced finance processes.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Project Accountant will have the following accountabilities:

Management Accounting & Reporting

  • Preparation of monthly management reports and analysis including Planning Budgeting Forecasting, Business Unit Reporting, Commercial Assessments and operational reports, ensuring reconciliation and accurate variance analysis.
  • Identify and analyse any material exceptions to forecast and plan against actuals, and prepare corresponding commentary.
  • Prepare economic and sales forecasts and period adjustments, collating and analysing information.
  • Conduct research pertaining to the application of appropriate data and processing methods and analysis, recording and reporting of financial information to support informed decision making.
  • Manage data quality and integrity of monthly management reports including Planning Budgeting Forecasting, Business Unit Reporting, Commercial Assessments and operational reports.
  • Ensure applicable management accounting documentation and supporting procedures exist and are up to date.
  • Work together with the external accounting provider to support the business.

Financial (Statutory) Accounting

  • Contribute to financial transactions and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances and other financial results to ensure compliance with approved accounting standards.
  • Identify and analyse any material exceptions to forecast and plan against actuals, and prepare corresponding commentary.
  • Preparation of external reporting to ensure consistency, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting to achieve regulatory and business outcomes.
  • Support data quality and integrity of output for monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to increase networks and allow for exchange of information.
  • Ensure applicable financial accounting documentation and supporting procedures exist and are up to date.
  • Drive and ensure compliance to Financial Accounting and Reporting policies, procedures and contractual commitments under financing and proactively identify and raise non-compliant issues with the indirect report.

  • Work together with the external accounting provider to support the business.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and report continuous improvement initiatives in relation to the Financial & Management Accounting and Reporting processes and systems

 


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Essential Criteria: The following skills, experience and capabilities are required: Qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent). Experience in Finance and Accounting roles. Experience in management reporting and applicable legislations. Sound commercial acumen and understanding of general and transactional accounting, cost accounting and reporting. Experience with TM1 / Cognos / Oracle R12 or similar finance systems. Technical financial skills as required. Desirable: Property and infrastructure or investment management industry experience. Personal Attributes Customer service focus Highly detailed oriented and organised in work Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction from manager to accomplish objectives Ability to supervise and mentor indirect reports Strong proficiency with email and Microsoft Office applications Commercial orientation, focused on delivering solutions and results Ability to multi-task and prioritise workload Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to make the complex simple in pursuit of clear deliverables Enjoys working in a team environment
