Job Summary:
We currently have a vacancy for a General Accounts Assistant to support the Financial Accounting Team at the our clients Territorial Headquarters.

This is an exciting time to be joining the finance department with our clients as they start to embed financial business partnering within its management accounting team.

The financial accounting team is responsible for delivering the statutory accounts, delivering month end processing and year end closures, as well as managing treasury, tax and financial compliance across both trusts. The department is streamlining processes and practices to ensure timeliness and accuracy.

The department supports the wider finance team in its provision of professional and efficient accounting services, reporting and advice that enables informed decision making, good stewardship and compliance, enabling the department to better serve its stakeholders, increasing the quality and the value that it adds as it moves to three year planning.

The role of General Accounts Assistant-Financial Accounting sits within the financial accounting team within the Finance Department where they support the financial accountants ensuring that the right information is in the right place, at the right time, within the right systems to ensure the organisation meets its’ external statutory reporting requirements. The work undertaken by the General Accounts Assistants also helps ensure that our clients maintains financial control and effective decision making.

Key Responsibilities:
They are responsible for undertaking reconciliations and managing accounting inputs for bank accounts, petty cash and cash control across the clients ensuring accuracy and that they are being accounted for appropriately and then post adjustments arising from bank reconciliation differences to ensure the accuracy of the data on the systems. They also work with the banking providers to resolve practical issues such as lost banking and unpaid cheques.

They support end users within Corps, Social Centres and other users in improving the accuracy and timeliness of banking returns and support the regional accounting teams around the country on bank account related queries.

They assist the wider finance team to close month end in a robust and timely manner to ensure the successful achievement of the financial timetable and they may assist in the production of audit files at the mid-year point and at year end ensuring timely and accurate data provision to support relevant reporting schedules engaging proactively with the external auditing team.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate they have:

  • A minimum of two A‘ Levels and GCSE Maths and English at Grade C (or equivalent)
  • Understanding of basic accounting concepts especially the principles of double entry
  • Significant experience of undertaking high volume bank reconciliation activity
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to process transactions quickly and accurately
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and manage your own workload when dealing with multiple tasks to meet required deadlines
  • Good communication skills being able to clearly communicate messages either verbally or in written communications
  • Detail focus and a systematic and methodical approach to your work
  • Ability to be flexible in terms of task management and managing requests whilst working to deadlines
