Job Description

This well-known regional contractor who has had a long and established history in the North West are looking to recruit an experienced Assistant Accountant. They boast a high-profile customer base and are working on a number of exciting projects.

As the Assistant Accountant you will assist in the financial management of the Company, specifically dealing with management reporting, cash flow planning, and the day to day management of the general finance function.

The role will assist with the smooth running of the finance team and will facilitate the ongoing improvement of the accounts timetable.

Reporting to the Finance Manager your duties will involve;

  • Cost Reporting & Month End Accounts - assist in financial reporting from initial cost allocations, monthly cost reports, control accounts and exception reports
  • Subcontract Ledger - processing subcontract certificates, making payments and assisting with the monthly CIS return
  • Expenses & Petty Cash - processing all monthly petty cash and expense returns ensuring correct Vat claims are followed in line with HMRC VAT rules
  • Cash flow Planning - update records for forecasted cash receipts and actual receipts to help with cash flow planning. Assist with the forecasting of cash outflows for the subcontract and purchase ledgers
  • Management of the stock system - liaise with the yard staff to ensure accurate stock levels are being maintained and that the stock system within the accounting system is being updated. Periodic stock counts will be required to ensure compliance.
  • Management of internal queries
  • Assist with annual P11d tax returns in accordance with IR guidelines

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· AAT or similar qualified accountant · Experience within an accounting environment along with a comprehensive knowledge of accounting issues · A comprehensive understanding of the Construction industry – desirable · A knowledge of PAYE, P11d’s, tax and national insurance – desirable · Able to build and maintain good working relationships internally and externally · Highly accurate with a good attention to detail - able to manage queries and recognize errors made internally / externally · Strong people management skills – provides clear direction and ensures staff know what is expected of them
