Job Description

We’re looking for a financial accountant to join our central financial control team and help us to drive continuous improvement in accounting and financial control across our Co-op. A key focus will be to provide financial accounting support and appropriate financial control for the Corporate Centre.

As a financial accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring consistent accounting practices and high standards across all Coop businesses, producing timely and accurate information and proactively supporting the businesses. What you’ll do

  • act as the main contact for financial accounting support for our corporate Centre within the financial control team
  • work with the wider financial accounting team to continually drive process improvements and standards in financial control across the Group
  • produce a variety of high-quality balance sheet control account reconciliations for the corporate centre ensuring robust control of the corporate balance sheet is maintained
  • produce statutory accounts for various Group subsidiaries including co-ordination of tax pack info
  • support the production of the Group’s annual accounts at interim and year-end
  • produce monthly finance pack for our in-house self-insurance team
  • provide technical accounting guidance for ad-hoc queries raised by our businesses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• An accountancy qualification i.e. Aca, cima, acca or equivalent. • Experience of producing or auditing statutory accounts under ifrs. • Strong excel skills with the ability to manage large quantities of data. • Great communication skills, with a talent for building positive relationships with partners across the business. • Balance sheet reconciliation experience. • Good time management skills, able to manage their own workload in a fast-paced environment. • Experience supporting external audit activity would be desirable, but not essential. • Experience working with sap would be advantageous, but not essential.
