Job Description

Main activities of the role

  • The receipt, recording and appropriate distribution of correspondence and applications including handling and recording of the receipt of fees paid in respect of firearms, shotgun and explosive applications
  • Assist members of the public in relation to the completion of their applications for firearms and shotgun certificates and permits
  • Respond to telephone enquiries from members of the public, police officers and other agencies, providing advice on firearms legislation
  • Carry out vetting checks and interrogate force systems for all applicants applying for firearm, shotgun and explosive certificates. To gather, assimilate and record accurately information obtained from the various systems
  • Ensure accurate data input onto the National Firearms Licensing Management System (NFLMS)
  • Ensure the timely renewal of applications for shotgun and explosives certificates
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the Firearms Licencing Unit
  • File, maintain and weed files
  • Prepare and dispatch certificates, permits, other authorities and letters
  • Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by line management.
