Job Description

The successful applicant will lead the Financial Accounting team to deliver a high quality service, and ensure that accurate financial accounting records are maintained, to including the maintenance of bank and balance sheet control accounts to a high standard. The individual will take a key part in year end reporting and the ensuring of a clean audit report and a robust control environment.

The role will report to the Head of Financial Accounting and Treasury as part of a wider central finance team that is vibrant and keen to move forward with improvements to processes and controls.
You will make a difference by:

- Ensuring the day-to-day financial accounting of transactions is carried out with a high level of accuracy and is right first time through the provision of accurate, professional technical advice and guidance on financial accounting aspects of key transactions.

- Ensuring that bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations are maintained to a high standard. As well as managing the team to complete these, the individual must be capable and prepared to get stuck in themselves to complete the reconciliations if necessary

- Leading the drive to ensure that a robust control environment exists and that recommendations from internal auditors are effectively integrated into the function.

- Managing, coaching and developing the team members, adhering to Action for Children's policies.

- Building and developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Providing appropriate support and solutions where required and instilling trust in the Financial Accounting team. Ensuring all queries received from AFC operational teams, external and internal auditors and HMRC, are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.

- Leading the production of accurate and timely balance sheet, cashflow and working capital reports for month end reporting updating schedules. Take ownership of the fixed asset register, advise on capitalisation policies and ensure compliance.

- Leading the team in the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting. Ensure related reports are produced on a timely basis and ensure all deadlines are met

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fully qualified with a recognised CCAB qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA). - Experience of working within a finance department to produce statutory accounts. - Experience of proactively developing and applying process improvement changes. - Experienced in managing, leading and developing a team. - Experienced in use of financial accounting systems. - Effective communicator and experience of building relationships with key stakeholders. - Computer literate, with effective Excel skills i.e. v-lookups, pivots etc. - An ability to analyse problems in a methodical way, to deliver practical solutions that are compliant with professional standards. - Focused, and detailed with a professional approach to deliver quality, timely and accurate work and promoting this ethic within the team.
